Sketches in Exile, Space 3 (2006)
I wrote this story many years earlier, while I was still living in Toronto. It was written as part of a tryptich: Sketches in Exile, Letter to Modigliani and Bateau Lavoir. All three stories are based on reminiscences of my time in Paris as an Eastern European refugee and lover of French literature and art. So far only Sketches has been published. As in my other stories, the city of Paris acts as one of characters that sets them mood and seductive tone of the story. At that time I was influenced by Baudelaire and three great Canadian writers: Michael Ondaatje, Anne Michaels and Jane Urquhart.
