Package, Etchings 5 (2008)
This was one of the first stories I wrote in English: I re-wrote it again and again over several years. It is a tale about the tragic and comic ironies of living in a totalitarian state. Like most of my stories, it is experiential and looks back at my grandfather’s life: his incidental adoption by a Russian aristocrat and subsequent involvement in the Russian revolution. At the time of writing, I was strongly influenced by Gogol and Marquez.
